Features SalmonTalker
This application was created for use by field ecologists and biologists to create georeferenced documentation of salmon encountered in the field using speech recognition.
Frequently field observations of salmon are made in wet conditions that can interfere with touch screen operation, or are performed in a situation where the observer cannot look away from the fish being counted to record data via a touch screen interface without missing observations.
Instructions may be downloaded from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15aZjErYhtilfqknNCNRgzMXKujRxdr9j/view?usp=sharingTo use this application, the technician verbally identifies the species being counted, and than as the observer travels along the river or stream, the number of salmon observed are spoken.
This will create a record in the application database for that count which includes latitude and longitude coordinates as well as the last spoken species.
Data can then be formatted in comma separated variable (CSV) format for transfer to desktop or laptop computers.
Previously data was collected by ruggedized handheld devices with tactile buttons allowing the user to document observations in a "heads-up" mode.
These devices are no longed being commercially produced in a standardized configuration appropriate for this use. This application is actively under development.
Future versions will not only process speech faster, but will have a larger vocabulary, as well as have greater flexibilty in allowing users to define trigger words or phrases within the application that are specific to their projects specific needs.
